Heat Conversion
The field of heat conversion focuses on the research and development of chillers and heat pumps.
Our research approach ranges from the development and optimisation of individual components to their integration into complex energy systems. Our long-standing expertise on this thematic complex focuses particularly on sorption heat pump and cooling systems (closed absorption, open adsorption), on sorption storage, as well as innovative compression heat pump applications.
Our work focuses on:
- Research in thermofluid dynamics, heat transfer, and fluid process engineering
- Heat pump circuit design, optimised circuits, efficiency-increasing approaches
- Development, construction, and testing of thermally and electrically driven chillers and heat pumps
- Identification of promising applications for innovative heat pump solutions and system adaptation or development
- Design of cooling and heating facilities and energy systems in the fields of cogeneration, solar air-conditioning, waste heat utilisation, cold from biomass, as well as cold from district heating and geothermal energy
- Planning of innovative heat pump solutions and integration into complex energy systems, operational support and optimisation, energy system analysis, source-sink analysis, waste heat utilisation through integration of heat pumps and storage systems
